What is paravotarpr?

Educational website and simulator of the Puerto Rican voting system. The creation of the website was divided into phases in an agile process. The first phase was worked the informational side of how to request “Voto adelantado”. This means that if you are going to be absent on Election Day, you can vote early but you must go in person to a local office. Also with this in mind, we add to the first phase how to get your voting card and a checklist of all the required paperwork.

The second phase was the simulator where you can see the 3 different methods to vote; “Mixto, Candidatura, and Integro”. This simulator also worked on different sprints in order to adjust citizens’ reactions and recommendations such as accessibility, usability, and the request of an interaction that makes it possible to print your participation in order to use it as a reference for the day of the elections.

the problem & my role

Our primary focus was to address the issue of erroneous voting by citizens, commonly referred to as "damage votes." Additionally, we aimed to educate and inform citizens about alternative voting methods to enhance their understanding and encourage greater participation in mixed voting alternative.

My role was to be responsible for the user experience, accessibility, and visual design of the entire platform. Also, the person assigned to the communications campaign through radio, press, and television to educate citizens about its existence and use of the platform.

Development and design working together

Participating in a team with two developers and being the sole designer proved to be incredibly important for my professional growth. It highlighted the significance of effective communication and streamlined collaboration. By providing the necessary design specifications, interaction examples, and ready-to-implement HTML and CSS files, I ensured a smooth workflow and eliminated potential bottlenecks in the development process. Through open discussions and regular feedback sessions, we fostered a strong synergy, leading to cohesive and visually appealing products.

Here is an example of one of the rounds including detailed information about dimensions. Another type of communication was made was explanations of the design rationale, user interactions, and design-to-development handoff process, I could effectively showcase my ability to bridge the gap between design and implementation.
